Socrates Garrett has owned and operated Socrates Garrett Enterprises (SGE) for over 35 years. SGE specializes in construction, construction management, program management, and operation and maintenance.
Garrett has successfully administered prime contracts for various entities, including the City of Jackson, the State of Mississippi, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, as well as subcontracts for engineering services for the Mississippi Development Authority, the Port of Gulfport, and the City of Biloxi, MS—to name a few.
In addition to SGE, Garrett is involved in several other businesses, including We Believe Digital Broadcasting Studio, New South Development and Training, and EarthBlend Coffee.
He is the owner of We Believe Podcast and We Believe Internet Radio, and he founded former publications such as Today’s Mississippi Tomorrow’s South magazine, Missing Link, and Outfront newspapers, as well as The Mississippi Link. His business start-ups also include Next Level Entertainment Complex and SG Office Complex.
Garrett holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Alcorn State University and has furthered his education at Los Angeles City College and in Advanced Entrepreneur Management and Operations at the University of Miami. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Garrett is actively involved in his community, serving as a board member of the Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, President of the Jackson Medical Mall Business Association, and a commissioner on the Levee Board. He was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour to serve as Chair for the Mississippi Broadband Connect Coalition and has been instrumental in job development, providing viable income to many Jacksonians through rehabilitation, training, internships, and hiring.
Garrett has worked on various projects, including the City of Jackson Traffic Lights installation, establishing “First Responders” facilities in Jackson, and rebuilding efforts after Hurricanes Camille and Katrina and in Puerto Rico. His SG Trucking was responsible for the removal and treatment of wastewater at OB Curtis and Presidential Hills. Other notable Jackson projects include the Jackson Metro Center, Farrish Street Development, and the Meridian Downtown development.
Garrett's humanitarian efforts are carried out through his non-profit organization, New South Development. His affiliations include being a member of the Alcorn State University Hall of Honor, former chairman of the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce, member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and member of New Horizon Church International.
